Dr. Music | Fairhope's Record Store since 1996

Based on a true story, Shadowlands stars Anthony Hopkins as world-renowned writer and professor C.S. Lewis. Unmarried, Lewis leads a gentleman's life filled by intellectual pursuits, remaining untouched by any great passion until he meets Joy Gresham (Debra Winger). Joy is a feisty, abrasive New York divorcée whose sharp-edged, no-nonsense attitudes take Lewis by surprise. Bursting unexpectedly into Lewis's world, Joy shocks his associates and awakens him to deep emotions he has written about but never experienced. Slowly, he opens his heart to this woman and their romance shatters the walls of his world. He soon discovers that life is made up of delicate balances and he must confront a terrible truth: that a heart awakened to great love is also opened to great pain.

Starring: Anthony Hopkins; Debra Winger; Julian Fellowes

Reviews:

  • ""Shadowlands," directed by Richard Attenborough, based on the stage play by William Nicholson, is intelligent, moving and beautifully acted." - Roger Ebert rogerebert.com
  • "An engaging encounter between adults, it's also about lost childhoods, questions of God, intellect versus emotion, pain versus pleasure and other far-reaching themes. Perhaps most significantly, "Shadowlands" is illuminated from beginning to end by Hopkins. This may be the best thing he's ever done." - Desson Howe The Washington Post
