More Info:
2CDs containing Sandy Posey's four classic MGM album releases in their entirety. Includes seven non-album tracks, plus rare Italian language versions of 'Born A Woman' and 'Single Girl'. Features an extensive new essay on the life and career of one of the most enigmatic and innovative female artists of the 1960s. In the mid-60s, Alabama-born Sandy Posey gently tore down the walls that traditionally separated girl groups, beat groups, country, and rhythm and blues to fashion a unique brand of smart, sassy, and emotionally searing pop. An inspiration to the young Dolly Parton and revered by British Mods, the effortlessly chic Posey was later idolized by, among many others, Morrissey, who included her 'I Take It Back' in his 1989 list of "Singles To Be Cremated With", and power pop favourites The Primitives, who revisited Posey's 'Single Girl' in 2012. 'Born A Woman' brings together for the first time the MGM albums Posey recorded with the legendary Chips Moman in Memphis between 1966 and 1968. Also included are a clutch of wonderful non-album singles and Italian language versions of the million-selling hits 'Born A Woman' and 'Single Girl'. With extensive liner notes by Brian Ward, 'Born A Woman' is the perfect introduction to a tremendous singer, under-appreciated songwriter, and enduring style icon at the peak of her genre-defying powers. Enjoy the best of Sandy Posey: a singular woman and monumental talent.back to top
